Stan Mashburn  1953 Studebaker Italia

Owner Stan Mashburn wanted to customize his new 1953 Studebaker which was already a very fine automobile when it came stock from the factory. Ramond Lowey had designed a factory custom car with this 1953 model in stock form, but Stan wanted to add a few personal touches to make it just a little better than it already was.

Stan knew excactly what he wanted with his 1953 Studebaker. He is a fine craftsman himself but for most of the work he turned to Niel Emory and Clayton Jensen at teh Valley Custom Shop. Stan designed and built the new grille himself. But it was Clayton who did the final touched on it and carful filing and sanding before it was eventually send out to be plated.

Before that a complete new front end had to be built from sheet metal, flush mounting the front bumper. The front bumper guards where replaced with reworked 1952-3 Buick rear bumper guards. with integrated parking lights. The rear wheel openings where reshaped to math the once at the front to show of the wide white wall tires with chromed knock-off wire wheels which gave the car a very European feel.

The hood had to be reshaped to fit the new front sheet metal and the corners of it both at the front and rear where rounded, which resulted in a very subtile but elegant looking hood. The front of the trunk corners where also rounded and the chrome was shaved and holes filled in.

The rest of the body was also mildly dechromed but the door handles where left alone.

Bright red paint and a lower stance create a well proportioned and styled high end custom car... another uniquely styled Valley Custom Shop creation.
