Hank Griffith 1942 Ford
Hank Griffith 1942 Ford
Hank Griffith’s 1942 Ford coupe was chopped 4 inches in the front and 4.5 inches at the back, with a rather steep step from the top to the trunk area. The rear window was also chopped in this process. which is rather unusual since the rear windows where usually left alone. One of the Ayala trademark modifications, the full fade away fenders where also incorporated on this custom.
The front fenders where extended using preformed sheet metal and the rear fenders where replaced by fenders from a 1951 Cadillac. Also the rear bumper and taillights come from this 1950 Cadillac. The trunks was relieved of all its chrome hardware and the trunk corners where rounded and the gravel shield molded and fared into the body. At the front the hood was smoothed and the headlights molded to the fenders and frenched. A modified ‘51 Cadillac grille replaced the original grille and ‘47 Ford bumpers where used at the front. The car is seen here in dark primer, but on the opening page of this chapter it can be seen racing in a white primer or satin paint. I have never seen any pictures of this car beeing finished.
