All had always loved the look of the 49-51 Mercury custom cars but when he bought his 1950 model he wanted to see if he could create a unique custom with bodymodifications both elegant and also never been seen before. He decided Gil and Al Ayala at Gil’s Auto Body Shop where the perfect body man to create his dream custom. Al discussed many possibilities and ideas with Gil and Al and decided was that the main focus would be the addition of longer fenders to the round 1950 Mercury rear end.

Decided was that a set of 1952 Oldsmobile rear fenders would be used. A lot of body work went into flaring them into the Mercury body. In the front the Mercury dogleg was filled in and just behind the doors a new upward line was created to flare in the wider at the top Oldsmobile rear fenders. The rear fenders also needed a lot of sheet metal work to flare into the trunk section at the back. At the rear the Oldsmobile gravel pan was flared into the body and also the Oldsmobile bumper was used. The Stock 1952 Oldsmobile taillights where used. At the front the grille shell and gravel pan where molded to the fenders and a new home made grille bar was created wider than the stock grille would be to create some visual width to the front. Three molded grille bars where centered on the bar before everything was chrome plated. The Hood was de-chromed and peaked, and the peak was also extended down onto the upper grille shell.

The corners where rounded with a very large radius at the front and at the back small the hood ends where cut of and molded to the cowl and fenders, and also the corners there where rounded. The headlights where extended and frenched. The windshield was chopped four and a half inch and Appleton series 112 spotlights where installed. Ayala built new fender skirts from scratch to create a new look. All side trim except the beltline trim where removed and the body was painted with twelve coats of Devil Red Maroon lacquer for a very deep shine. Chavez created the padded top and did the full custom upholstery.
