This car was the result of a great collaboration between Barris Kustoms and

Cerny’s Paint and Metal shop. The bodywork was begun at Barris’ for then-owner

Allen Anderson.

The top was chopped beautifully—arguably the best chop on a shoebox Ford ever.

It dropped three inches in the front to six in the rear, with a slight rake added to the windshield, and the car was turned into a hardtop.

The tops of the doors were welded to the roof, and a new graceful door line was made in the doors at the height of the belt-line. The flow of this top is incredible and absolutely flawless from any angle. It must have been Sam who did this one.

Buster Litton bought it after the top was chopped and the front fenders had been extended six inches. He then took it to George Cerny to do the rest of the custom work.

Front fenders from a ’51 Studebaker were installed and the front gravel pan was molded and rolled into the new grille opening. A lip was added on the bottom of the hood using ’51 Mercury pieces. The new lip repeats the lip found on the front wheel opening and the fender skirts, making for a very nice overall design element, Finishing the front end, a ’53 Chevy grille with ’51 Ford end bullets was mounted.

At the rear Cerny installed his trademark Olds elements, in this case a complete ’51 Olds rear quarter panel, including taillights. The rear bumper was replaced with a ’53 Ford unit. The ’48 Buick side trim and cut down ’51 Merc skirts add more visual length to the already lengthened and lowered custom. Wheel-covers are ’53 Cadillac units.

According to a ’53 Hop Up article, the finish is an attention-rousing maroon bronze lacquer. Gaylord did the very elaborate interior in beautiful long and wide rolls & pleats in off white and orange Fabrilite. The dash was finished off with a flying eyeball and a desert scene, with telephone poles disappearing into the distance, by Von Dutch. The car was also known as

the Panoramic Ford.
