Ed Jacques 1941 Ford
Ed Jacques 1941 Ford
Ed Jacques coupe body is actually a 1942 model which has the transition from roof to rear deck smooth rather than a actual sharp line which the 1941 models have – but everything else is 1941 body panels.
To get the car really low as Ed had ordered the frame was kicked up in the rear by 5 inches and the front was lowered using a dropped axle and de-arched springs. All four fenders have the factory crease removed and where molded to the body using a large radius flare all done with metal and no lead was used in this procedure. The front wheel opening was raised and reshaped.
At the front the headlights where molded and frenched and the stock grilles where replaced with very elegant custom made grilles made from chromed round rod which Neil had worked on for a long time to get perfect. The hood was filled and peaked and the front was reshaped to fir to the new center grille. The front gravel pan was mounted lower to the body and molded and flared into it.
At the rear the same was done to the gravel pan and at both ends 1946 Ford bumpers where used at now lower position to create an elusion the car is even lower than it already is. The running boards where removed and boy panels extended to cover where they used to be. A set of 1947 Ford taillights where mounted on hand formed pods which where molded low onto the rear fenders. The corners of the doors and trunk where all radiused with a 3.5 inch radius. The body was smoothed and handles shaved. Doors and trunk now open with pushbuttons which have the outside switches hidden inside the chrome beltline trim.
The dashboard was smoothed and glove box door filled. A Mercury Monterey Steering wheel on stock but chromed column was used. Floyd Tipton upholstered the coupe in green and white tuck & roll. The body was painted a deep dark green metallic lacquer. Smooth aftermarket hubcaps on wide walls finish it of.
