Don Roach  1949 Pontiac

This wonderful simple and very stylish custom was created in the early 50’s. Al chopped the windshield three inches and a gorgeous padded top for it was made by the Carson Top shop.  The interior was set up for hand controls since Don was a paraplegic, and upholstered in white and black leather by Carson.

At the front the grille opening was modified with a very elegant molded lip which replaced the original chrome piece. The grille itself remained basically stock, but with the elimination of the chrome upper lip now looks so much better. The hood was shaved of its very heavy hood ornaments and the headlights where frenched. The door handles where shaved from the body and electrical push button’s where installed. The rear fenders where modified by using a set of Oldsmobile 98 taillights. The original taillight location was modified and now in use as exhaust exit. The gravel pans both front and rear where chrome plated and to get the car to sit just right the front coils where cut and the frame was kicked up in the rear. The rear was lowered slightly more than the front to give the custom instant speed even when standing still.

The Pontiac was painted with many coats of dark purple lacquer to create a very deep gloss. Final touch was to replace the stock hubcaps with a set of 49 Cadillac Sombrero’s. The shape of the stock hubcaps is rather similar to the Cadillac units… but the difference just completes the package.
