Dick Fowler 1938 Ford Coupe

Another early Barris custom was the 1938 Ford Coupe that was built for Dick Fowler.

The custom was built between 1946 – 48 and features a wonderful radical chop by Sam, Typical of that era the drip rails where removed and the top door corners where rounded.

At the front a set of accessory headlights where installed and the hood was modified o fit the 1938 Packard grille. The hood sides where modified to fit the new grille and the chrome was removed from the sides as well as from the hood top. The car was lowered all around but a bit more in the back for the desired Speedboat look. A set of 1937 DeSoto ripple bumpers was installed at front and rear and very caracteristic for the early customs where the Appleton fog lights installed on top of the new bumpers. The door handles where not removed.  After market fender skirts and a set of smooth single bar flippers mounted on black wall tires are the finishing touch. The photo above shows the car possably in white primer. At this point I’m not sure if the car was ever painted completely. however two photos of the car show it in  a darker color (possebly a two tone) this might have been a finished paint job. The car has survived and is currently being restored.
